Nearshore Staffing in Guatemala
Guatemala is our largest sourcing market. It runs on Central Standard Time (UTC-6) year-round with no daylight-saving change, so a Guatemala City professional is on the same clock as your Dallas or Chicago office every day of the year. It is the most populous country in Central America and the region's largest economy, which gives it the deepest bilingual talent pool for help desk, customer support, accounting, and administrative roles.
Why U.S. companies hire in Guatemala
Guatemala's outsourcing sector grew around U.S. demand, so the workforce is already trained on U.S. business norms — U.S. holidays, U.S. customers, U.S. ticketing and phone systems. Candidates typically come out of a bilingual school system and then a private university, and many already have three to five years of contact-center or shared-services experience with North American clients before they reach us.
Because the country never observes daylight saving time, scheduling never drifts. A 9-to-5 Central Time shift is a 9-to-5 shift in Guatemala City in January and in July. That sounds small until you have managed an offshore team through two clock changes a year.
What the talent market looks like
The strongest supply is in service delivery roles: tier 1 and tier 2 help desk, inbound and outbound customer support, accounts payable and receivable, order processing, and executive assistance. Mid-level and senior engineering talent exists but is thinner than in Mexico, so for senior DevOps, cloud, or software engineering we usually recommend Mexico or Costa Rica.
Retention is the practical advantage. A dedicated, full-time role with a U.S. company at a competitive local wage is a career job in Guatemala, not a stopgap — which is why turnover on our Guatemala placements runs well below what clients report from large offshore contact centers.
